This service provides improved near real-time rainfall and stream height data products from publicly available satellite measurements by creation of a virtual network of rain gauges and stream gauges at points widely distributed over the entire Lower Mekong Region.
The service leverages a wider range of ground measurements to ensure better calibration of satellite derived rainfall estimations (GPM-IMERG, TRMM, CMORPH, RFE2, GSMAP) and water elevation estimations (Jason-2/3, Sentinel-3 data products); Increased consistency and standardization of data formats available to end users; More convenient access to data products from the rainfall estimation missions and the altimetry profiling missions; Detailed guidance on using these valuable data streams for a variety of applications including now-casting, flood forecasting/warnings, water resource accounting/management and landslide early warnings/risk assessment/management, and river basin/reservoir management, transboundary river flow management, etc.
